sign.online recently supported insurance broker DR-WALTER in digitising contractual dealings with a group of worldwide partners. The turnkey solution developed by sign.online for DR-WALTER enables batch signing of a large number of contract addenda with a single digital signature, saving the company time and money and strengthening credibility and trust in its contractual relationships with partners.

The Challenge

Nancy Kannenberg, Head of the Business Relations Team at DR-WALTER had a challenge.

As an insurance broker specialising in travel insurance, the company is in contact and has contractual relationships with many organisations worldwide. As is usual in the insurance industry, contract management has been paper-based.

The process of signing each of these contracts alone involved many steps:

  • drafting and reviewing the agreement terms, 
  • printing the final version including adding the counterparty’s logo, 
  • handwriting the signature, 
  • scanning the agreement, 
  • posting or emailing the agreement to the counterparty,
  • following up with the counterparty to receive their signed version by email or post, and
  • Storing contracts offline, which takes up a lot of space and does not make searching for contracts particularly easy.

 

If an addendum is required for these numerous contracts, this process again involves enormous consumption of paper, printer ink, envelopes, physical filing cabinets and storage space, as well as working hours.

Enter Martin Nørgaard Gregersen and sign.online.

The Journey

Martin, a full-stack developer and software architect, was recently brought onboard at DR-WALTER Group to support digital transformation and business process automation across the organisation.

Martin also happens to be CEO and co-founder of sign.online, which offers an easy-to-use platform for individuals, businesses and government agencies to digitally sign contracts and confirm transactions quickly and cheaply.

1. From one to many: upgrading sign.online’s platform for batch signing capabilities

To launch the first batch contract signing solution for DR-WALTER, sign.online needed to upgrade its backend to process group workflows, instead of singular workflows. Martin worked on a turnkey solution over the European Summer and successfully launched this for DR-WALTER in September 2025.

The next issue identified related to GDPR compliance and the heavy regulatory burden of the insurance industry with respect to personal information, in particular health data.

2. Ensuring data security and integrity in the regulated insurance industry

After working with the compliance officer at DR-WALTER, Martin created detailed documentation for how sign.online handles data using a total of 90 GDPR data privacy measures. Having verified the data protection processes at depth, sign.online and DR-WALTER were able to co-sign a data processing agreement.

Martin also built a custom Analytics Dashboard as part of the turnkey solution, which allows DR-WALTER to see statistics for all workflows, look up any particular workflow, and check its details. This allows them to do manual changes to the workflow status. It also increases their monitoring and reporting capabilities and makes them less reliant on sign.online support.

3. Integrating multilingual capabilities into the contract management system

Up until this project, the sign.online digital signing platform had only been available in English. DR-WALTER needed a multi-lingual solution, including for the correspondence with customers and the language of their contracts.

sign.online therefore adjusted the batch signing system to be able to handle contracts and custom notification emails in different languages.

4. The cherry on top: formatting multiple contracts individually with counterparty logos and brand typesetting

Once sign.online solved the above three issues, Martin could turn his attention to the more aesthetic details of document formatting and design. 

The sign.online turnkey solution now allows for tailored formatting of individual contracts, including the ability to add high resolution logos of counterparties and use brand typesetting.

The Result

In September, sign.online’s turnkey solution for DR-WALTER for batch signing went live. Operating in several batches, nearly 300 contracts were successfully signed digitally and emailed to suppliers in minutes.

The new digital process has enabled Nancy and her company to experience significant benefits, including:

  • Hundreds of contract addenda signed with a single digital signature
  • Significantly reduced need (and costs) for paper, printer ink, envelopes, storage folders and office space,
  • Decreased time for the whole legal process of contract signing as suppliers use the sign.online platform to digitally countersign the contracts quickly,
  • Increased data integrity and security of legal procedures with suppliers, and
  • Increased credibility and trust in the eyes of suppliers, some of whom have already asked about how they can employ the solution into their own business processes.
